We’re excited to share that Los Amigos de Valles Caldera has been awarded a Trails+ Grant for $46,000 from the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division to support trail signage improvements at Valles Caldera National Preserve, located in Sandoval County! We are grateful to the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division for their support.
This funding will allow us to work in partnership with VCNP over the next two years to enhance the visitor experience while protecting the natural beauty of the preserve. Funds raised in our 2:1 match campaign for trail signage in December, 2025 will be used during this project.
What This Means for Valles Caldera:
This grant supports the installation and design of 20+ trailhead signs along the park’s 25-mile road system and at perimeter entry points from surrounding public lands. Trails are one of the most important ways visitors experience Valles Caldera—from hiking through wide-open valleys to exploring forested areas and taking in incredible views. The grant will:
* Improve trail signs and accessibility,
* Provide interpretive messaging,
* Enhance wayfinding and visitor safety
* Protect sensitive landscapes from erosion and overuse.

A Long-Term Investment:
This is not a one-time project—it’s an investment in the future of the preserve. Over the next several years, these signs will help ensure that trails remain safe, labeled, enjoyable, and environmentally sustainable for all who visit.
Powered by Community Support:
This achievement reflects the power of partnership and community. As the official nonprofit partner supporting Valles Caldera National Preserve, Los Amigos works to enhance programs, projects, and visitor experiences that connect people to this incredible landscape.
