Like it is for you, the Valles Caldera is deeply special to our Board of Directors—the vast mountain meadows, abundant wildlife, and meandering streams all contribute to the Preserve’s exceptional beauty and sense of wonder.

What Do We Do?

Los Amigos is the official “Friends” group and a National Park Service Cooperating Association for Valles Caldera National Preserve. We operate the Valle Grande Bookstore to support the educational, scientific, historical, and interpretive activities of the Preserve. Our store is now located in the Volcano Discovery Center in the historic cabin district and offers clothing, books, and unique items that visitors love to take home as reminders of their visit. Thank you for supporting our bookstore—it truly makes a difference!

2025 Project Successes

In addition to operating the Valle Grande Bookstore during 2025, Los Amigos proudly:

• participated in National Public Lands Day work projects and provided lunch for volunteers,

• supported tribal consultation meetings and National Park Service planning meetings,

• produced a “challenge coin” for distribution by the Superintendent,

• conducted a successful $5,000 match campaign to support expanded interpretive signage,

• supported the Native youth fishing program,

• funded cabin district trail signs and facility banners, and

• supported youth education programs, the Artist in Residence Program, the VIP program, the Preserve’s 25th birthday celebration, Fall Fiesta, cultural demonstrations, and guest speakers.

In 2026 and Beyond

An exciting year lies ahead at the Preserve, and we hope you will be part of it by renewing your membership for 2026. With your support, Los Amigos will help fund front-country infrastructure improvements, new trailhead and interpretive signage, education programs, cultural demonstrations, an interpretive intern, guest speakers, and appreciation items for our dedicated volunteers.

In addition, because we are a member of the Public Lands Alliance (PLA), you’ll enjoy discounts at more than 400 public land stores nationwide that participate in the PLA Reciprocal Discount Program—just show your membership card at checkout.
