About the Event
Take in the beauty of winter at the Caldera.Â
There are activities for the whole family. Listen to the Rangers read stories, learn more about the art of snowflakes, animal tracks and winter survival, create a snowman and sip on hot chocolate and make s'mores. Take the self-guided scavenger hunt and come back for a prize.
Various programs and activities will be taking place in and around the Ranger Station. Check out the schedule of events here:Â
https://www.nps.gov/vall/planyourvisit/valles-caldera-winter-fest.htm
This is a free event for the public and no RSVP is required, except for the Ranger-led ski tour. See more info on their website.Â
11:00 am - Winter Soundscapes Ski Tour (ages 16+)
Join a park ranger for a guided winter ski tour of Valles Caldera National Preserve. Participants
will awaken their senses to the sounds of nature and learn about the forest ecology of Valles
Caldera. Space limited; registration will open 2 weeks in advance on the Ranger-led Activities webpage.Â
Snowshoeing (all ages)
Visitors are invited to explore Valles Caldera's expansive, snowy landscape at their own pace
using snowshoes. Los Amigos de Valles Caldera will have equipment rentals available in the
Entrance Station. The recommended self-guided route is the Cerro La Jara Loop, a 1.4-mile
groomed trail around the base of a forested lava dome.
