Dear Friend:
We would like to invite you to join a new group whose mission is to support
the Valles Caldera National Preserve for present and future generations through
outreach, education, restoration, and collaboration. We hope to see an important
part of our western legacy maintained, while at the same time preserving
the natural wonders of one of the world's largest calderas (extinct volcanic basins)
with its unspoiled vistas, lush forests, meandering meadow streams, and the
sights and sounds of abundant wildlife.
As you may know, the Valles Caldera Trust has until 2015 to become economically
self-sufficient. That is quite a task, given the many other goals of the
Valles Caldera Preservation Act, including preservation of ecological integrity,
operating as a working ranch, and providing for public access. Los Amigos de
Valles Caldera hopes to help the Trust by accomplishing educational, interpretive,
conservation, research, planning, and improvement projects and programs
for the benefit of the Preserve, and by assisting the Trust in stimulating interest
in these programs. Los Amigos will provide volunteers for restoration project,
outreach purposes, and public events.
We hope you will consider joining us in our mission today.
Sincerely,
Doug Fraser, Chair
Los Amigos de Valles Caldera
